We all know that Rafa is out,  but we still have 5 of the world’s top 8 players in the quarter finals. World number 1 Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Britain’s Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and David Ferrer all went with form to reach the last 8. They are joined by three other seeded players that might not have expected to make it this far.

The first of those is 31st seed Florian Mayer who beat Richard Gasquet in the 4th round, his reward is a match with defending champion Novak Djokovic. The other top half match will be contested between 26th seed Mikhail Youzhny and six time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer.

2012 Wimbledon – Quarter Finals

[31] Florian Mayer (GER)
[3] Roger Federer (SUI)
[26] Mikhail Youzhny (RUS)
[7] David Ferrer (ESP)
[4] Andy Murray (GBR)
[5] Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)
[27] Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER)

The final player to mention is 27th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber, the 2nd German in the last 8 and the player who has benefited most so far from Nadal’s exit. It was Kohlschreiber who took out Nadal’s conqueror Rosol in the third round and now faces 5th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Finally the match that most of Britain will be waiting for, Andy Murray versus David Ferrer. Murray has so far had a tough draw and of the top 4 players left in the draw is surely facing the toughest of test. David Ferrer is possibly the most tenacious player on the tour and is finally getting to grips with grass. Ferrer and Murray currently have an even head to head though have never met on grass.
