Wimbledon 2010 – Mens Singles Draw

The draw for the 2010 Wimbledon championships has been made with 4th seed Andy Murray opening against world number 80 Jan Hajek.

Defending champion Roger Federer will open the championships against world number 65 Alejandro Falla and in the other half of the draw 2008 winner Rafael Nadal begins his campaign against Japan’s Kei Nishikori .

Andy Murray has been drawn in the same half as Rafael Nadal meaning a potential semi final with world number 1. This will be Baker’s 4th Wimbledon and he has yet to win a match.

Britain’s only other men’s player in the main draw, Jamie Baker will play his first round match against world number 78 Andreas Beck.

Perhaps the pick of the 1st round ties is the one between world number 1 Rafael Nadal and Kei Nishikori – The Japanese player may well be currently ranked 204 in the world – but he was granted a wildcard for the championships as the young Japanese players current ranking does not reflect his true ability. He burst onto the tennis scene 2 years ago rising quickly to 56 in the world and winning an ATP title along the way, an elbow injury then forced him to miss most of 2009 and the start of 2010, since making his come back this year he has won back to back challengers.

Should Murray make it through his first round match he’ll face the winner of Jarkko Nieminen and Stefan Koubek, his possible seeded opponent in the third round is 28th seed Giles Simon. Should he make it to the second week he would most likely face either 14th seed Juan Carlos Ferrero or 28th seed Sam Querrey. Predicting a possible quarter final match is little more difficult, on seeding it would be 8th seed Fernando Verdasco or perhaps 10th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, but both have failed to achieve at Wimbledon.
