Queens Club 2012 – Andy Murray Loses to Nicolas Mahut

Defending Queen’s Club champion Andy Murray was dumped out in the his first match by¬†Frenchman Nicolas Mahut in the second round of the Aegon Championships at Queen’s Club.

Murray lost 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-1) to the world number 65 Mahut, who his more famous for playing a very long match (which he lost) than anything he has acheived on the tennis court.

Murray received a first-round bye was playing his first grass court match in almost 12 months and never looked comfortable throughout the match. Even so it had seemed the Scot was finding a way to win after claiming the 2nd set on a tie break and taking an early break in the final set.

Mahut though fought back to win the deciding on a tie break. He will next face Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the third round on Thursday.

After his win Mahut said,

Maybe it’s the best victory of my career, it was a difficult match and I’m very happy. I’m pretty sure Andy will do well at Wimbledon, maybe win this time. I’m really sorry guys, but you will see him winning matches very shortly.
