Andy Murray and Daniel Gimeno-Traver are set to meet in the first round of Wimbledon, they have met just once before on the main ATP tour. That match was almost two years ago in Valencia and Murray won comfortably. He also went onto win the title in Valencia that year.
Daniel Gimeno-Traver is two years the senior of Murray and has been on the main tour a year longer than the Scot. He was born in Valencia, so I’m sure he did not enjoy losing so easily to Murray at his home event.
Although they have only met once on the ATP tour, these two will know each other quite well as Murray trained in Spain so would have crossed paths in junior events. When they were making their transition to becoming professionals they met in a Futures event in Spain, on that day it was the 19 year old Gimeno-Traver who beat the 17 year old Murray.
The Spaniard is currently having his best ever season and achieved his highest ranking of 52 last month (currently 53rd). So far this year he has posted wins against top 20 players Jurgen Melzer and Richard Gasquet.
This will be Gimeno-Traver third Wimbledon, he made it to the 2nd round in 2009 and lost in the first round in 2010.
