Andy Murray is one of the few players in the world who hold a positive win loss record over Roger Federer, there is currently just one game in it. However at one stage Murray led the head to head 6-2.
They have only ever played each other on hard courts and have met just three times in grand slams. Those three grand slam matches though were quite important, the 2008 US Open final, the 2010 Australian Open final and the 2012 Wimbledon final – Federer won all three finals. They will play their first ever grand slam semi final on Friday.
Those 3 grand slam meetings can perhaps be forgotten now as since then, Murray has beaten Federer in the Olympic final over 5 sets and won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open.
2011 – It will be remembered as the year of Djokovic, which meant Federer was relegated to 3rd in the world and with Murray 4th it usually meant they could only meet in finals and it just never happened.
2010 – The second year in succession that the Federer Murray head to head finished 2-2. Federer claimed the two crucial wins in the Oz open final and the round robin match in the Barclays ATP Tour Finals – Murray claimed two good straight sets masters series events.
2009 – It finished 2-2 this year, with Federer winning in the round robin match in the Barclays ATP Tour Finals as well as a masters 1000 win – Murray claimed another masters series win as well as a win in Doha right at the start of the year.
2008 – It finished 3-1 to Murray. 3 good wins for Murray in Dubai, Madrid and the old end of year championships in Shanghai could not compare though with US open final for Federer.
2006 – Murray claimed his first win over Federer at the Cincinnati Masters, Murray had only been on the ATP tour for 12 months, so it was big win for Murray.
2005 – Murray and Federer played their first match in the final in Bangkok, the 18 year old Murray lost on that day.
