Cilic’s only win came at the US Open in 2009, with Murray one of the favourites for the title it was a surprise loss especially when the Croat dispatched Murray in straight sets.

Since then Murray has beaten Cilic twice most notably in the semi final of the 2010 Australian open. That performance was Cilic best grand slam run and although Cilic took the first set, Murray came back to win the match.

There only meeting on grass was way back in 2007 during a world group play off match in the Davis Cup, when a young 20 year old Murray beat an even younger 18 year old Cilic.

Murray is two years the senior to Cilic and although he has played over 100 more ATP tour level matches than Cilic, he has lost fewer matches than the Croat.
