Murray Prepares for His First at Roland Garros 2012

Tatsuma ItoThe world number 4 Andy Murray will kick of his 2012 French Open against Japan’s Tatsuma Ito on Tuesday. The match will be played on the Suzanne Lenglen Court and will be the 4th match up after 2 ladies singles and another men’s singles, so we should expect to see Murray around 4PM UK time.

Murray has dismissed concerns over his fitness ahead of Tuesday’s his first round match, the fourth seed has been suffering with a back problem since December but he has now said that It’s much better now. He said,

The back is feeling much better now. It was just something that had been niggling for a lot of the year and obviously the more you play on it, it’s going to get a little bit worse each time. I needed to take a break and let it settle down a little bit, but it feels better now. This time last year I twisted my ankle after my third round match, I was on crutches and had an MRI scan. No matter how sore my back is, it’s much better than how my ankle was at this stage last year and I managed to have a good run, so hopefully it will be the same case this year.

Murray fell to Nadal in the semi-finals 12 months ago after enjoying his best ever clay court season in 2011. This year it’s not went so well, with just a few clay court wins under his belt and losses against Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic and Richard Gasquet.

His opponent on Tuesday is Tatsuma Ito, 24 years old and currently ranked 62 in the world. It will be the Japan’s player first ever main draw match at the French Open and is also just his third grand slam appearence. Ito has mainly applied his trade in the challenger levl of events of recent years though he has now risen his ranking to a level where he gains automatic qualification to grand slams after years of unsuccesfull attempts to quailfy for majors.

Looking ahead to his Roland Garros debut, Ito said of Murray:

He’s a great tennis player. I’ll try to do my best, be aggressive on every point. I played against him once before, in doubles. He has a good serve and is difficult to break. It’s exciting for me. I would be famous if I won. I will try 100% and fight hard on every point.
