Jamie and Liezel lost in semi-finals

Scotlands Jamie Murray, and American partner Liezel Huber, were knocked out of the US Open mixed doubles last night.

They got off to a great start in the semi-final against Leander Paes and Meghann Shaughnessy by taking the lead in the first set on a tie break.  However it went dramatically downhill from there on in, and Murray and Huber were beaten 6-7, 7-6, 10-5.

Sets one and two were pretty tight, and there wasn’t a break of serve in the first set at all until Shaughnessy netted a crucial volley at 4-4, enabling Murray to serve out.  In the tie-break, Murray and Huber trailed throughout.

After Jamies win with Jelena Jankovic in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon at the beginning of the summer, this must have been a disappointing loss for him.  However Leander Paes, at the age of 34 is still one of the worlds best doubles players, and just has that much more experience than Murray.  Murray is in fact teaming up with Paes in the Asian tournaments in Bangkok and Beijing later this year.

Paes and Shaughnessy will face the duo from Belarus, Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka in the final.
