Ferrer Knocks Murray Out Roland Garros 2012

Murray Loses in ParisAndy Murray’s 2012 French Open campaign was ended in the quarter finals by Spaniard David Ferrer.

The world number four handed the match to Ferrer. He miss-fired all day on serve and committed a countless number of careless unforced errors eventually losing 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 6-2.

Murray’s serve was broken 10 times in the 4 set match and he rarely had a comfortable service game. In total he lost 50% of his service points.

During rallies he was being far more aggressive than usual which led to a high number of unforced errors. What may come clear over the next few days is that Murray’s back injury may have been hurting more than he let on. By the end of the match his service action was looking laboured and he clutched he had been clutching his abdomen throughout the match, even after winners.

Don’t be too surprised if Murray misses next week’s Queens Club.

As poor as Murray was, Ferrer was as impressive, stubborn and solid as Ferrer always is. In the end he was unlucky not to win in straight sets. That win for Ferrer levels up their head to 2-2.

Ferrer will play fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the last four.
