Roger Federer claimed his 50th tournament win yesterday, one more event to add to the young Swiss’ ever expanding catalogue of achievements.
Federer crushed James Blake in straight sets to win 6-1, 6-4; breaking the American twice in the first set and once in the second to race to victory in just 65 minutes. James Blake forced three break points in the fifth game, but this was as close as it got in the whole match.
Feder said, “It’s not a goal I set for myself in my career, but it’s definitely a nice number to get to, especially in terms of titles. It’s really a lot, you know, so it’s great.”
Federer now holds 14 Masters series titles, just 4 shy of Andre Agassis record. Federer is now looking forward to the US Open, where he is the 3 year defending champion.
