Djokovic defeats Federer to win Montreal title

Yesterday, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic beat world no. 1 Roger Federer to win the Montreal Masters title, denying Federer his 50th career title.

Djokovic is currently ranked world no. 3 and was third seed in the Montreal tournament.  He beat second seed and world no. 2 Rafael Nadal in the semi finals before going on to defeat Federer for the title.

This is the fifth time Djokovic and Federer have played each other in a tournament, and marks the first time that the Serb has defeated Federer.

Novak’s good friend Andy Murray has dropped a further 2 places to no. 16 in the ATP rankings after his early ousting from the tournament last week.
