The second round did prove a little tougher for world’s top 5 than the first round. In the bottom half of the draw Giles Simon fought back from 2 sets down to force Roger Federer to 5 sets before the world number 2 eventually won through, whilst world number 3 Djokovic needed 4 sets to make it past Ivan Dodig. It was much more simplier for the elite players in the top half of the draw, Nadal, Murray and Soderling all had straight sets wins in their second round matches.
