Australian Open 2011 – Murray Crushes Garcia-Lopez

Australian Open Tennis 2011Andy Murray demolished 32nd seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in round three of the 2011 Australian Open with comprehensive straight sets victory.

Dropping just 4 games, the world number 5 broke the Spaniard’s serve 8 times on his way to a 6-1 6-1 6-2 victory.

The one game that Garcia-Lopez did win in the first set was a break of the Murray’s serve but after that the Scot had no difficulties and wrapped up the match in one hour 32 minutes.

After the match Murray gave an interview to the world’s media,

It was a very good match, He’s a tough player but I played well. I didn’t give him many chances on my serve so I’m happy. My intensity has been good so when I play the tougher matches I think I’ll be OK. If I can keep up my intensity I’ll have a good chance. I have played very well in every match. It is difficult to concentrate for long periods in this heat. I’ve won my matches in straight sets but it’s definitely a lot harder than the scoreline suggest.

Even though the Spaniard was able to stun the crowd with a through-the-legs winner in the opening game of the match, he was able to hold serve in that game as Murray broke him after being down 40-0 in the game. After that the match was effectively over as Murray never looked back.

Murray will next play Jurgen Melzer who beat Marcos Baghdatis in round 3. Meltzer is the 11th seed here in their previous 4 matches Murray has won them all, their last match was 12 months ago here in Australia Murray running out 7-5, 6-0, 6-3 winner.
