ATP World Tour Finals – Murray Beats Ferrer

atp world tour finalsAndy Murray swept aside David Ferrer to reach the semi finals of the 2010 ATP World Tour Finals in London.

He beat the world number seven and Spanish number two in straights sets, 6-2 6-2.

His victory tonight also ensured he would return to at least number 4 in the world rankings and he may yet finish the season ranked number 3 in the world, should results go his way.

Murray finishes second in Group B after Roger Federer had already won the group early in the day with a straight sets win over Roger Soderling.

Going into the match Murray knew he only had win a set or even just 7 games to ensure passage into the semi finals, but after a slow start dropping serve, the match victory was never in doubt as Murray took full control of the match.

Murray will now face the winner of Group A, which is yet to be decided. The most likely winner will be Rafael Nadal who has 2 wins from 2 so far. Group A concludes tomorrow (26th Nov 2010).

Match Preview

Andy Murray will attempt to make the ATP World Tour Finals semi final for the second time as he takes on Spaniard David Ferrer in tonight’s final round robin match of group B.

Qualification will be in the hands of Andy Murray as he will know exactly what he needs to do before playing his match tonight, with the other group match between Robin Soderling and Roger Federer taking place this afternoon.

If Soderling wins that match, then Murray must equal or better the scoreline against Ferrer. If Soderling fails to win then a win for Murray will guarente him a semi final spot.

There are many scenarios that could take place that could still see David Ferrer go through or even Murry go through without winning.

These two have met each other 4 times and it’s Ferrer that leads 3-1 in victories, though Ferrer’s three wins have come on clay, while their one encounter on hard courts was won by Murray, though that was back in 2006.

The bookmakers have Murray as odds on favourite to win. Betfair as usual have the best odds available.
