Andy Murray Nick Kyrgios

Andy Murray made is long awaited comeback to the tennis court today after almost a year away from the game. It wasnt quite the dream return, with Murray narrowly losing out to Australia’s Nick Kyrgios 2-6, 7-6(4), 7-5.

Despite the loss, the 31-year-old did test Kyrgios, in what was an encouraging performance, a slightly sharper Murray would have likley secured the victory.

After 342 days on the sidelines, Murray finally stepped back on tou court at Queens Club, a tournament that he has been last man standing a record 5 times.

He had relatively little time on the practice court coming into the match and expectations were extremely low, some even predicting that Murray woudl fail to make it through the tie. In the end it was a fairly remarkable comeback. For the most part, you wouldnt be able to tell that Scot has barely hut a ball in anger in the last year.

His movement, speed across the court, power and concentration levels all seemed sharp. His serve always a vulnerability was no worse than the serve he’s won three grand slams, two Olympics and a davis cup with.

As the match progorssed match fitness was clearly a factor, with Murray slowing in the later stages.

His next move will likely be a wildcard into next week’s Eastbourne tournament. There he will likley make the descision on whether or not to play at Wimbledon?
