Andy Murray Beats Chardy

Its 15 sets played at the 2013  Australian Open and 15 sets won for Andy Murray. He marches on and is now just 6 sets away from claiming his second grand slam.

Jeremy Chardy was the man on the other side of the net today and the Frenchman claimed just 7 games as Andy Murray raced away with a 6-4 6-1 6-2 victory

Murray will next face world number 2 Roger Federer in the last four after the  Swiss ace beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the evening match.

Chardy had caused the biggest surprise in the men’s draw so far in Melbourne when he beat sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro in the third round, but there was no surprise today.

Murray’s route to the semi final’s so far as been very comfortable and many predict that his next match with Federer will be much much tougher. That saying when the last met in a 5 set match Federer only managed 7 games, just like Chardy today. On his win today Murray said,

I think you have to trust yourself that when you are tested, you’re going to play better tennis. You never know for sure, but in the build-up to the tournament I played very well. I haven’t lost a set here yet, so maybe I’m expecting to play too well or whatever. But I’ve done a good job so far in this tournament. I can’t be disappointed with where my game’s at.

Today was Murray’s 15th grand slam quarter final (he has only lost in 3 of them) which now means he plays in his 12th grand slam semi final on Friday, his current record stands at won 5, lost 6 – though he has never played Federer at this stage of a grand slam, his only meeting with the current world number 2 in grand slams so far has been in the final.
