The last 8 men standing are all set to battle it out at the 2012 Australian Open.
The 4th round of matches all went dwon according to the form-book with one exception. Japan’s Kei Nishikori shocked 6th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with a stunning 5 set victory. The 24th seed is the first Japanese player in 80 years to reach the Australian Open Quarter final. His reward for reaching this stage is a match with Britain’s Andy Murray.
6 of the world top 8 ranked players have made it through to this years quarter final, Tsonga and Mardy Fish are the only two missing. Nishikori is joined by Juan Martin Del Potro as the other player not in the top 8 to make it through.
Del Potro has risen up over 400 places over the last 12 months having missed almost all of 2010 through injury. He will meet Roger Federer in his quarter final match, it’s the first time the pair have met since Del Potro beat Federer in the 2009 US Open final.

Murray and Nishikori will play on Wednesday along with the other match in the top half of draw which sees world number 1 take on world number 5 David Ferrer.
The first set of quarter finals will take place tomorrow (Tuesday), Federer and Del potro will play first before 2nd seed Rafael Nadal and 7th seed Tomas Berdych take to Rod Laver Arena court in the evening match.
Andy Murray will be bidding to make his 5th consecutive grand slam semi final, whilst Djokovic will be hoping to make it 7 in a row.
