2012 Australian Open 4th Round Draw

Australian Open 2012The mens singles event at the 2012 Australian Open is now down the last 16 and the 4th round draw has been finalised.

The 3rd round had a few significant casualties with much fancied Milos Raonic losing to veteran Aussie Lleyton Hewitt in 4 sets. 9th seed Janko Tipsarevic was comprehensively dismissed by 17th seed Richard Gasquet and the 13th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov was beaten by rising Aussie star, Bernard Tomic.

The biggest upset of the round 3 was 92nd ranked Mikhail Kukushkin knocking out 14th seed Gael Monfils in 5 sets. Kukushkin’s reward for winning is a fourth round match with Andy Murray.

World number 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic will face Lleyton Hewitt and in the other two 4th round matches in the top half of the draw, David Ferrer takes on Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga takes on Kei Nishikori.

In the bottom half world number 2 Rafael Nadal will play fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez and world number 3 Roger Federer will face Aussie hopeful Bernard Tomic.

In the last two 4th round matches, Juan Martin Del Potro continues his comeback from the serious wrist injury that seen him miss almost all of 2010 with a match against unseeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber and 7th seed Tomas Berdych will face 10th seed Nicolas Almagro.
