2011 US Open – Nadal Knocks Out Andy Murray

Murray loses to Nadal US Open

Andy for third this year was knocked out of a grand slam by Rafael Nadal in the semi finals. This time he lost in 4 sets 6-4 6-2 3-6 6-3 in just under three and half hours.

This adds to his 4 set loss at Wimbledon and his straight sets loss at the French Open. With the hard courts of the US being Murray’s most favoured surface and Nadal’s least favoured surface, tonight’s semi final offered Murray his best chance of beating Nadal.

Murray started the match slowly and he looked like the player who had spent most time on court. Nadal had breezed through his quarter final against Andy Roddick whilst Murray had to fight for over three hours to get past big serving John Isner his previous match.

Murray did fight well to stay with Nadal in the first set, but the break eventually came seventh game when Murray framed a return. From then on Nadal looked unstoppable and saw out the opening set, before breezing through the second.

Nadal trains to play Murray over 5 sets because he knows that Scot can win sets against him, that’s what Murray did in the third fighting back to force a 4th set. This where Nadal’s awesome strength and endurance comes in to effect has he once again took control of the match as Murray wilted in the final games.
