2011 French Open 4th Round Draw

Roland Garros 2011We are now at the half way stage of the 2011 French Open, 3 rounds down we move in the 4th round of matches. The worlds top 5 players are still in the draw and someone is just 4 wins away from lifting this years title.

We have still to see any real upsets in the men’s event this year, Juan Martin Del Potro flirted with causing one in his match with Novak Djokovic. It wasn’t to be though as Djokovic extended is winning streak to 42. Andy Murray was almost forced out of this years championship with injury, though it looks like he will be able to continue. Nadal, Federer and Soderling all had simple straight set wins.

The 4 matches in the top half of the draw will be played on Monday, that includes Andy Murray vs 15th seed Viktor Troicki, Rafael Nadal vs unseeded veteran Ivan Ljubicic, the all South American affair Alejandro Falla and Juan Ignacio Chela and in the final match home favourite Gilles Simon takes on 2 time Roland Garros finalist Robin Soderling.

Tomorrow the bottom half will play first Novak Djokovic will try to extend is winning streak against this time facing 13th seed Richard Gasquet, who will surely have all of French crowd behind him.

The best match up of the 4th round is between another Frenchman, 9th seed Gael Monfils and 7th seed David Ferrer. Ferrer has quite quietly moved through the draw and after Nadal and Djokovic, he is the player who has had most success on clay this year.

The final two matches sees the all Swiss affair between Stanislas Wawrinka and Roger Federer as well as the unseeded contest between Fabio Fognini and Albert Montanes.
