2009 French Open Andy Murray Beats Juan Ignacio Chela

roland_garros_logo1Andy Murray swept passed Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela to reach the second round of the 2009 French Open. The Scot took apart Chela in less than 2 hours with a very convincing 6-2 6-2 6-1 win. Despite being broken in the very first game of the opening set, the world number 3 destroyed Chela with a masterful performance of pressure tennis. The Scot is making just his third French Open appearance, his previous best of the third round, which he made just 12 months ago in 2008 and Murray looked well suit to surpass this. Murray was in awesome form as he hit 55 winners and committed just 19 unforced errors. Murray converted 8 of 16 break point chances. After the match Murray spoke to reporters,

It was a very good win. I was not expecting to play that well in the first match,” added the Scot. “I dictated most of the points when the rallies went long, which he normally likes. If I play that well in matches, I’ve got a good chance of winning comfortably. I wasn’t expecting to play that well and it was a bit surprising.

Murray will next take on Italian Potito Starace in the second round. See a preview of Andy Murray v Potito Starace.
